How to start B2B marketing before choosing channels

A strong start in B2B marketing requires several decisions made in the right order. This guide helps build the foundation without beginning with a random campaign or posting calendar.

01

1. Define the business objective

The objective should describe a change that matters to the company: entering a new segment, launching a product, increasing qualified conversations or reducing the time needed to build trust. Reach alone is rarely enough to guide the complete process.

02

2. Map the buying process

Document who notices the problem, searches for solutions, evaluates risk and signs the agreement. For each role, collect questions, objections and proof needed to progress. This creates a topic map stronger than a list of popular formats.

03

3. Collect knowledge and proof

Review projects, sales conversations, customer questions, photos, documentation and expert experience. These assets show what the company can truly do. Record constraints and claims the brand does not want to make.

04

4. Design content pillars

Pillars should support successive decision stages: problem recognition, understanding possible routes, evaluating an approach, checking proof and preparing for a conversation. For each pillar, define knowledge sources and the person responsible for accuracy.

05

5. Choose channels at this point

A channel should follow the audience, knowledge format and team capacity. Maintaining two channels with strong material is better than five profiles filled only to satisfy a calendar.

06

6. Define delivery and measurement

Assign a process owner, source deadlines, approval time and review cadence. Measure delivery and flow quality first. Visibility and opportunity data becomes meaningful once the process has operated consistently for long enough.

Let’s identify the right starting point.
